Feeding Your Puppy
We feed raw food as, after a lot of research and trial and error, this is what we have found works best for us.
We switched to raw many years ago when we had a dog with multiple allergies and were quickly converted. We now have dogs with no skin irritations, great dental health, gorgeous glossy coats, firm stools and healthy and happy pups. The proof is in the pudding so they say!
In saying this, vets often don’t support raw feeding so our advice is to do your research and follow which ever method works best for you and your puppy. There is a wealth of information on the pros & cons of raw feeding online. For us the benefits far outweigh the negatives and our dogs and puppies are thriving.
Dr Ian Billinghurst has a couple of great books - ‘Grow Your Pup With Bones’, and ‘The BARF Diet’ which are well worth a read. The basis of raw is providing your dog with ‘BARF’, an acronym for ‘biologically appropriate raw food’. You can either prepare this yourself or buy ready made patties for convenience, most pet supply stores stock these.
We also feed Frontier, Big Dog, Leading Raw, Ziwi Peak & Whoa Nelly - we change it up frequently for variety and to ensure that they receive a balance of different proteins. This combined with raw meaty soft bones such as chicken & turkey necks, frames and wings, eggs, yogurt, sardines, salmon etc provides a perfectly balanced diet for your puppy.
